Utrecht, Netherlands – The ATM Security Association held its inaugural meeting last month in the Netherlands. During the meeting, multiple ATM manufacturers, financial institutions, suppliers, service providers and independent ATM deployers (IADs) were inducted as official members of the association, representing more than 40 percent of the global automated teller machine (ATM) installed base.
“We are encouraged by the amount of interest in membership that we have received,” said Joerg Engelhardt, ATM Security Association finance and marketing director. “It’s exciting to see key players in the financial space team up to combat the most pressing security issues in the industry.”
To compile information on recognized and potential ATM attack scenarios, association members established working groups focused on software security, encryption, skimming and cassette security to rapidly develop and implement counter-measures at a global level. Results of these working groups will be shared with specific industry groups when complete.
The ATM Security Association is focused on bringing ATM manufacturers, suppliers, operators, financial institutions and authorities together to build a neutral and secure platform for the analysis of identified threats, delivery of faster and more comprehensive information, enablement of proactive, cross-vendor recommendations on countermeasures and development of relevant industry security standards.
